(*)We use meteorologic data from our meteorological station in Destnice near Saaz. 30-years average (1981 – 2010) according to Czech Hydrometeorological Institute is being used as long-term average. (Up to 2016 the 1961 – 1990 average has been used.)
Comment:
During the winter season 2018/2019 there was an approximate of 25% more rain than is expected during this season. At the beginning of February, 15-20 cm of snow fell, which proceeded to melt in the course of a week. Although the relatively rich winter season, it was unable to compensate for the water deficit, especially lacking groundwater. This winter season managed to rank itself as the fourth warmest in the last decade. It was on average 1.7°C warmer than the long-term average (1981-2010). The 166 mm precipitation for the 2018/2019 winter season represents 126% of the 1981-2010 average. In the period December 2018 ? January 2019 the precipitation was above normal whilst February remained average. Spring works in the hop gardens, including cutting, wiring and embedding of training wires, commenced in the beginning of March and finished late April, thanks to the decent weather, which allowed the works to progress at a rapid and stable rate. At the end of April a part of acreage planted by varieties Sladek and Saaz Special has been introduced on the training wires. Now the chemical treatment against downy mildew, alfafla snout weevil and flea beetle is going on. |
