(*)We use meteorologic data from our meteorological station in Destnice near Saaz. 30-years average (1981 – 2010) according to Czech Hydrometeorological Institute is being used as long-term average. (Up to 2016 the 1961 – 1990 average has been used.)

Comment:

In August hot weather continued, particularly in the last decade, when maximum temperature exceeded 30°C in six days. Altogether there were 8 tropical days and 10 days with maximum temperature 25°-29°C in August. That is why the average month temperature was more than 1°C higher compared to long-term average. Despite frequent weak rainfalls in the first half of the month the total amount of precipitation was lower by 4,6 mm than usual. In spite of higher temperatures the number of sunshine hours was in total curiously by 12,8 hours lower than long-term average. The health condition of hops is good and the harvest on TOP HOP farms started from 19th to 23th August. The growth of cones was positively influenced by precipitation of the second decade of August, nevertheless the cones did not reach the common size at the majority of hop gardens and they are smaller. The quality and volume of bitter substances are satisfactory for the time being. The harvest of Saaz semi-early red-bine hops on TOP HOP Group farms is expected to be finished till 13th September, 2019.
