(*)We use meteorologic data from our meteorological station in Destnice near Saaz. 30-years average (1981 – 2010) according to Czech Hydrometeorological Institute is being used as long-term average. (Up to 2016 the 1961 – 1990 average has been used.)

Comment:

Similarly as in June hot and dry weather prevailed also in July. Average month temperature exceeded long-term average by 0,5°C. Nine tropical days together with the temperature up to 36°C show unusual weather conditions. Extremely high temperature was in the third decade of the month, when it varied between 29-36°C during the period of ten days. Unfavourable situation was also in precipitation the sum of which reached just a half of the long-term average. There were no rainfalls during the first half and the end of July. The only considerable rain of 21st July with 15,2 mm of precipitation increased the monthly sum of precipitation but it covered only small part of hop growing areas. The number of sunshine hours exceeded the long-term average by 23 hours. Despite adverse weather the health condition of hops is satisfactory. Long-standing drought and heat enable the development and propagation of red spider mite nevertheless thanks to the well-timed interventions its occurrence is limited to the edge of hop gardens. The serious danger of downy mildew of hops due to the weather is not a threat for the time being however it will be necessary to apply the suitable fungicide before the harvest. Unfortunately the lack of moisture negatively influences the growth of hops and especially creation of cones.
