Comment:

May contrary to last two months was cold, particularly its first half, when the minimum temperature often fell down to zero. The average monthly temperature was 11,2°C, which is 3°C lower than long-term average and compared to last year even 5,1°C lower. More favourable situation was as for the precipitaion, which exceeded long-term average by 23,4 mm thanks to heavy rain at the very end of May. The number of rainy days was above-average as well. The colder weather with frequent mild rain in the first half of the month influenced the time of sunshinning which was 64,1 hour shorter than usual. The cold weather enabled smooth hop training. The health condition of hops is good for now. Due to the early chemical treatment downy mildew of hops appears just sporadicly. Spreading of downy mildew however may be expected shortly as a consequence of rainfalls at the end of May. During last days of May first winged aphid appeared on hop plants.
