Comment:

This year´s August was slightly above-average as for the temperature and for the precipitation as well. Very hot periods frequently accompanied by storms were coming in waves during this month. However, precipitation amounts on those storms were quite low and did not mean significant source of moisture. Such waves of heat were changed several times by colder periods. Cold weather always brought significant rainfalls, thanks to them satisfactory state of moisture has been achieved at majority of hop-gardens. All growths of Saaz semi-early red bine hops have created cones already at the beginning of August except hybrid varieties which are later and therefore they were at blossoming phase only. Nowadays all growths are in full harvest ripeness. Physiological overripeness was already registered in several localities. At the beginning of August all the areas were treated against downy mildew of hops. During the last decade then about one fourth of hop-gardens was treated again. It concerned the growths which are scheduled to be harvested as the last. Health conditions of hops was very good at the beginning of the month. During the time it nevertheless worsened in several localities. Above all it concerned the hop-gardens situated along watercourses, among forests and in valey´s locations with higher occurrence of fogs. More or less serious signals of damage caused by downy mildew of hops were visible at those hop-gardens already at the beginning of the last decade of August. The insect pests did not represent any problem for the hop growths as for the health condition of hops in August. Hop harvest started in normal agrotechnical date which means by the end of the second and beginning of the third decade of August. Nowadays the harvest is going on at all hop-growing farms. Hop yield is presumed to be average. Majority of hop-growers intends to finish the harvest in the first decade of September
