Comment:

August was above the average as to the temperature and slightly substandard as to the precipitation in comparison with long-term average. There fell only 6 mm precipitation from 1st to 20th August. Decisive amount of rainfall 36,8 mm came only on 30th - 31st August which could not affect growth of cones. Chemical treatment against Peronospora and red spider mite went on. Health state of hops is good. Hop harvest started in the days of 18th - 22nd August and the last farmers will finish the harvest on 4th September 2012. Hop yields was negatively influenced by dryness at the end of July and in August. The average yield of Saaz semi-early red-bine hops is expected to be between 0,8 - 1,0 MT/ha. The average alpha acid content is supposed to be about 3,5 - 3,7 %.Photo taken on 20th August shows hop stand at the time when harvest started.
